Hey peeps.
I listen to podcasts. A LOT OF PODCASTS. i am always wearing my headphones, and i am always listening to podcasts.
Like all the time. Podcast stories. Podcast news. Podcast science. I love podcasts!
So I decided that this week instead of telling you about awesome theoretical physics, I’ll just tell you about some podcasts that you might enjoy listening to… I call it THE 2010 Ben’s CHOICE IN EVERYTHING BUT SCIENCE PODCAST AWARDS.
I AM SO SMART! I AM SO SMART! SMRT!
Okay, so there are some podcasts that I like to listen to that tell me about interesting and refreshing ideas! I enjoy CBC’s show “Ideas“, The BBC’s “In our Time with Melvin Bragg“, The BBC’s “Thinking Aloud“, and “Stuff You Missed in History Class“… but the one that takes the cake is… TV Ontario’s Big Ideas Podcast.
Big Ideas records University level lectures and plays them on TV. but who wants to watch a tv show when you can WALK AROUD THE CITY learning about sociology, literature, Science, and history? It’s even better than wikipedia. FANTASTIC.
I’m Bored Make me Laugh!
So I like to listen to things that make me laugh out loud. I like John Oliver’s “The Bugle“, the CBC’s “The Know-it-Alls”, the CBC’s “Laugh Out Loud” , the CBC’s Wiretap…. but my new fa
vourite is a brand new podcast from John Hodgman: The Justice John Hodgman Podcast .
John Hodgman presides over his court and
solves peoples problems. If you have a problem that requires solving, you may submit it for the Judge to rule on. So far he has ruled that guns aren’t robots, that Chili isn’t soup, and awarded joint custody of a robot giraffe to two roomates as a means of sealing their friendship.
The “Tell Me a Story Category”
So I am a dude who likes stories something raweful. here’s a little trick: if you spend your life constantly listening to stories as you wander around, you end up living MANY LIVES AT ONCE! EFFICIENCY!
There are a variety of good podcasts that regularly tell you stories. The CBC’s “Vinyl Cafe“, and it’s american counterpart “This American Life“, are both quite good. The Escape Artists podcasts: “Podcastle“, “Escape Pod” and “Pseudopod“. but my favourite story podcast is another new podcast.
The machine of death podcast. I remember 1 billion years ago, when they were requesting submissions for this book. I wrote a crummy one. Since their book came out, and rocketed to the top of the charts, and made a personal enemy of Glenn Beck (i couldn’t remember his name so i looked it up by googleing ‘fox news blowhard’). They are also releasing chapters one by one as a podcast, and so far they are AWESOME. listening to this podcast will convince you to buy the book.
The “miscellaneous ” Pile
I listen to other random podcasts, that can’t really be put into categories. I enjoy “The Ethicist“, The BBC’s Newsquiz, The NPR’s “Wait wait don’t tell me“, and “The Unofficial One Piece Podcast“… but the best by far is…
Tom Versus Aquaman!!! So in this podcast, Tom reads/narrates old aquaman comics. he used to read the flash. before then he used to read the justice league. Tom’s enjoyment and sense of fun are contagious! Life is more fun with Tom!
Shame on you, Ben for not including Science… Sort in your list.
perhaps you didn’t read the preface. this list is titled: ” 2010 Ben’s CHOICE IN EVERYTHING BUT SCIENCE PODCAST AWARDS.”
so. science… sort of doesn’t count.
I can argue the sort of part of science… sort of.
*peace*
hehehe
I also enjoy listening to podcasts.
I’m happy to discover podcast after obtaining my iphone.
I’ll check out some of your suggestions. There’s so many things to do, so little time. I even have a pile of audiobooks that I want to get into, but my ears are already stuffed.
Machine of Death. Just f’ing WOW. Thanks for turning me on to this… it’s brilliant!!
