Today we have a wonderful list of thoughtful internet tidbits for your viewing pleasure, or you can go join the ruckus on Ryan’s Centaur post.
My problem with Centaurs
So here’s my problem with Centaurs, and really Unicorns too but I had to pick just one: They live in the forest. Have you ever seen a horse in the woods? No, you haven’t. Unless you made it go into the woods by riding it around. But you didn’t bump into a herd of wild horses while you were doing that.

Trailer Trash Walk – Revisiting “Winnebago Man”
So if you’re a fan of Jacob (and who isn’t really?), you’ll be able to quickly answer this question:
“Which movie trailer was reviewed on the first episode in which Jacob appeared as a co-host?”
Here, I’ll give you a hint:
HAHA I TRICKED YOU! You thought it was SpaceBalls didn’t you?
…No? You saw the blog post title and deduced that the movie in question was actually Winnebago Man ?
Very sneaky PaleoPosse…Very sneaky…

Link-o-rama
The blog’s back and so is Link Day.
Here’s what the Paleopals learned from the great interweb oracle this week…

Goodreads and Guilt
This probably won’t surprise anyone, but I’m the kind of person who has trouble slowing down. I’m constantly working on something, trying to accomplish a task, achieve a goal, etc. I am the spinner of many plates, and one thing these many modes require is a lot of reading. I’ve always love reading so it’s not a big deal but I used to just crank through books one after another in no time. Now my various literature needs make that impossible. I would love to include some images of my ‘stack’ but it’s a bit too amorphous, spread out and embarrassing. However, you’re not without recourse because I am on goodreads. Yup, you think we cover all our social networking bases on the show? BAH! There is always another!
Museums Are Neat
Short list of things I like*:
- Museums
- Rocks
- Google-ing shit
That list set me to brainstorming a blog post that would forward a perfect pairing of objectives. Said post must be marginally interesting while seeding the reader with an unstoppable urge to visit a local museum. But what if there isn’t one in their town? What is the smallest town in the United States? (Sorry international paleopals, I had to limit the search somehow.) How far would you have to ride your speedy Schwinn two wheeler to get to a museum from there? Out of five candidates for smallest city in the US, let us select Gross, Nebraska for closer examination. The total population of 5 lives in a single household, making the theoretical travel arrangements slightly more managable. As it turns out, the Ponca Tribal Museum and Library of Niobrara, NE is open Monday through Friday, 8-4. Google tells me it is only 38.1 miles away from Gross, NE, a three and half hour bike ride away.
If you instead live in or around the 6th largest US city, Houston, TX, why don’t you come out to Dino Days at the Houston Museum of Natural History this Saturday, November 6 from 11-3. “Discover how bone models are made, dig deep in our Fossil Dig Pit, and meet some living dino relatives and answer some tough Triassic Trivia! Bring your little paleontologist and together you can discover the world of the dinosaurs.” There will also be a micropaleontology booth where learned foraminifera lovers can tell you all about our tiny calcareous friends.

It’s Jacob here! Back from an extended vacation from the blog. In case you missed it, I got married, went on a not-long-enough honeymoon, and now I’m back to the grind. Did you miss me? I missed you!
Thankfully the Caribbean is full of fruity drinks that helped me keep the urge to supply SCIENCE to the Paleo-Posse in check, at least while I was on my honeymoon.
Unfortunately, a disaster is about to impact fruity drinks everywhere!!!

New Look Trials
Hello Paleoposse,
We are working to get this blog rebooted and back into orbit. As part of this effort we are going to be trying out some new formats/styles for the look of the blog, so don’t be too alarmed. Be sure to drop us an email if you see something you really like or, on the other side of the coin, makes you throw up in your mouth.
